I am currently obsessed with wallpaper and when I told Chris and my family that I wanted to wallpaper pretty much every wall...or at least one wall, or room, or some space in our house they looked at me like I had 6 heads. You see, the girl's playroom had a pretty outdated and gross wallpaper border that took me an entire day to remove and after that project you'd think I would despise wallpaper. Also, our kitchen, and 2 out of 3 bathrooms in our home have wall to wall outdated wallpaper as well. See here:

There are currently eight unfinished projects in our house. EIGHT! You see, I'm a first grade teacher and Chris is a home energy auditor and his day is done when his last appointment is done. Basically, anywhere between 3:30 and 7:30, so finding the time and not to mention the energy to work on projects is really hard. Most days when I think about finishing these projects it feels almost impossible. On the bright side, there are only 12 school days left in the year and then I'll be free to DIY all summer long!!!
We're in the midst of converting half of our 2 car garage into a mudroom and laundry room. So far We removed one of the garage doors and replaced it with french doors and we've demoed this work space seen here:
When we were searching for a house, our list of must haves was short and sweet and it read a little something like this:
When buying a house sticking to your budget and gut intuition are so important. Sometimes buying a house is a whole lot like falling in love. Now, I'm not a sappy person but it's so true! Love can make you do crazy things though. Like spending WAY more than you planned or taking risks you wouldn't normally take.
When we saw our house, we knew it was the one. We left our showing to go directly to our realtor’s office to write up our offer. At the time, when we wrote our offer no one had yet put in an offer so we felt pretty confident about that. Before we bought our house we were living with my parents working and saving money. My mom had spoken to her realtor Mechell and was told that if we wanted to buy a house now was the best time to do it. We were apprehensive at first. We had saved up some money but not nearly as much as we wanted to. After lots of debating and putting it off we decide to bite the bullet and start looking.
We thought it would take us about 6 months give or take to find a house and that would give us some more time to save a little more...boy were we wrong! All in all, from the time we applied for our home loan to the time we closed on our house, it was only about 4 months. You know how on all of the HGTV shows you meet the family, they look at 3 houses, and then by the end of the 30 minute show they have a house and are all moved in to their new home? That's exactly what our home buying experience felt like. Our realtor showed us exactly three houses in about 2 weeks and the third one was the house we put an offer on and won! It was one of the most stressful and craziest experiences. Tomorrow I'll be sharing how we won our house with a letter to the seller and if you're lucky I'll even post the letter. |
